St. Rita’s Austin O’Connor joined the elite four-timer club this weekend by winning his fourth Illinois state championship, this one at 152-pounds. With his 20-7 win over Cole Smith of Providence High, who O’Connor beat for the fourth time this season, O’Connor became the 15th four-time state champion in IHSA history. O’Connor became St. Rita’s second four-time state champion. The first St. Rita wrestler to accomplish the feat was Albert White, who won his titles from 2004-07. O’Connor (46-0) finished undefeated for the second straight season and finished his high school career with a 181-4 record. This fall, he will be joining the wrestling team at the University of North Carolina. Congratulations to Austin O’Connor, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week!
