LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall Director of Athletics, Patricia S.W. Epps, and Head Wrestling Coach, Pete Schuyler, announced Matt Greenberg as the Diplomats’ Assistant Wrestling Coach on Tuesday. Greenberg will join the staff as the program’s first full time assistant coach, a position made possible by the generosity of the The Friends of Franklin & Marshall Wrestling.
“We are delighted that the Friends of F&M Wrestling rose to the challenge of funding this position,” said Epps. “In hiring Mr. Greenberg, we found the kind of bright young coach that will help revitalize our proud wrestling tradition.”
Greenberg brings a wealth of wrestling and worldly experience to the W. Roy Phillips ’31 Wrestling Room. A four-time Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) placewinner, Greenberg was a member of three wrestling teams ranked in the top 10 during his time at Cornell. In his senior season, Greenberg ranked in the top eight nationally throughout the season, won the EIWA Championship at 197 pounds and went on to his third NCAA Division I Championship Tournament where he earned All-American honors. He finished his collegiate career with more than 120 wins and four All-Ivy League certificates, including three first team tags.
“Matt brings outstanding wrestling credentials to Lancaster,” said Schuyler. “His experience as a top-caliber wrestler at a top-caliber academic institution will serve as an excellent example for our current and future wrestlers.”
Recruiting F&M’s future wrestlers will be a primary responsibility for Greenberg, who got his coaching start under Rob Koll, The David Dunlop ’59 Head Coach of Wrestling at Cornell. Greenberg was on the staff in 2004-2005 when the Big Red finished in fourth place at the NCAA Division I National Championships.
In addition to his experience in Ithaca, Greenberg has served as the head coach for The Club Wrestling School in Park Ridge, N.J. and The Ultimate Wrestling School in Elmwood Park, N.J. He also served as an assistant at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, N.J.
“I’d like to thank the Friends of F&M Wrestling and the College’s administration for providing such an exciting opportunity to come on board and work with these fine student-athletes,” said Greenberg. “I am grateful for the opportunity to coach and learn under a seasoned coach such as Schuyler.”
Greenberg earned a B.A. in Sociology with a concentration in business from Cornell, before earning his M.S. in Sport Business and Management from New York University. He was a marketing intern for Major League Baseball and a project coordinator for the 2006 National Basketball Association All-Star Game and has worked primarily in sports marketing ever since
