TOM: Describe your first wrestling Match.
KD: I had my first match when I was about five years old. I had been in the practice room long enough to understand the scoring system and how to win and lose. Before the match I decided to get to know my opponent as little kids often do. During the conversation he admitted to me that he had never won a match. Feeling bad that this kid had never tasted victory, I decided to take a dive – I lost to him on purpose. After the match my dad, who was very surprised to see me about half way through the match roll to my back, asked, “Why didn’t you try?” I explained to him about how I had learned that the kid had never won a match, and I thought it would be nice if I let him win. He smiled and said, “But Keegan, you haven’t won any matches yet either.”
TOM: To date what is your most memorable match and why?
KD: My most memorable match would have to be my sophomore year when I beat Pat Pitch from Arizona State. I was having a string of bad matches of losing by one point or in overtime. I was very much an underdog against Pitch, who had been ranked as high as third in the NCAA that year. In that match the hard work that Zalesky had put us through finally paid off. I upset Pitch, and got a taste of what hard work can accomplish.
TOM: If you could wrestle anyone from the past who would it be and why?
KD: If I could wrestle anyone from the past it would have to be Abraham Lincoln. Apparently one of Honest Abe’s past times was wrestling. It would be nice to be able to experience running a bar arm on one of our former presidents.
TOM: What are your long term goals in wrestling?
KD: One of my long term goals is to become a coach. Growing up I wrestled for some very good men, and I think they positively influenced my life. I would like to be able to have a positive influence on others. I only hope that I am able to do as good of a job as some of my coaches have.
TOM: What advice would you give to an up and coming wrestler?
KD: I would tell them that no matter what happens stick with it. Wrestling is one of those sports that no matter how much success you have in the sport, you will be better off as a person for doing it. It has taught me many things that have helped me in other aspects of my life.
TOM: What person has had the biggest impact on your wrestling career and why?
KD: I would have to say it was my dad and my brother. My dad encouraged me from the time I was a kid. He pushed me when I needed to be pushed and backed off when I needed my space. I was lucky to have a dad as involved as he was. He was at every meet and practice when I was a kid and would probably still come to practice if I would let him. My brother had a huge impact on my wrestling as well. He led by example and showed me what I could truly accomplish. Without him leading the way I would have had a much harder time in this sport.
TOM: List three things fans may not know about you but should?
KD: I’ll start with the most Important. I am engaged to Laura Farris my high school sweetheart. I proposed this summer and was lucky enough to get “yes” as a reply. We plan to have the ceremony in August next summer. I hope this won’t have too much of an effect on female ticket sales.
The second fact that fans wouldn’t know would probably be that my roommates (Tim Patrick and Brice Arand) and I are addicted to Call of Duty, a video game on XBox. So the next time you are getting beat while playing Call of Duty, it just might be one of us.
Finally the last thing fans wouldn’t know about me and might find surprising is that I have read all of the Harry Potter books. This is a secret that I have kept since freshman year, and now that I have revealed it. I will probably not hear the end of it.

I’ve loved watching Keegan compete over the years, in high school and college. Good luck to him this year.
The fourth thing that people should know about Keegan is that he has two Harry Potter wands in his desk drawer (one of which he made himself in wood shop). Don’t make him mad, he’s been known to cast terrible spells on his enemies.
-Laura Farris
Tell Keegan to take those wands with him to Omaha in March. Just in case. Didn’t his brother Stryder use some kind of ring during his career?
