EDWARDSVILLE, ILL. –The SIUE wrestling team will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to open the dual season at the Iowa Duals.
“This is a great opportunity for our team to compete against four very talented teams,” Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Coach David Ray said. “Each dual is going to be a battle for our wrestlers.”
The Cougars will compete against No. 8 (NJCAA) Iowa Lakes Community College at 10:30 a.m., NCAA Division III No. 4 Coe College at noon, NCAA Division III No. 9 Cornell College at 1:30 p.m., and will finish out the duals facing off against NCAA Division I top ranked Iowa at 5 p.m.
The wrestlers who will be competing for the Cougars are freshman Dustin Young (Anna) at 125 pounds; freshman Brendan Murphy (Palos Park) at 133 pounds; sophomore Dillon Pousson (Round Lake) or freshman Eric Biehl (Waynesville) at 141 pounds; freshman Kyle Lowman (Naplate) at 149 pounds; sophomore Steve Ross (Carlock) or freshman Lenny Kuspa (Oak Forest) at 157 pounds; sophomore Eric Pretto (Orland Park) at 165 pounds; sophomore Tim Mahoney (Joliet) at 174 pounds; freshman Sawyer Smith (Aberdeen, Wash.) at 184 pounds; freshman Robert Cooney (East Moline) at 197 pounds; and freshman David Devine (Petersburg) or freshman Chase Grafton (Alexandria, Va.) at 285 pounds.
“It is great for us to not have to forfeit a weight class,” Ray said. “We are going to use every dual as a learning experience.”
