UFC 107 was the first card in a while to feature a title fight and with that came some solid hype. Fortunately for the fans the fights lived up to the hype.
Sure, not all the fights were barn burners, but that said, all the fights offered some notable insight into the future of a few of the UFC’s weight classes.
The Main Card Quick Take:
Stefan Struve def. Paul Buentello via Majority Decision
This fight ended up as many expected. Struve was a better grapple and was able to dominate the fight on the ground. He opened the fight with a solid exchange of strikes before taking the fight to the ground.
The thing that made this fight interesting was that Struve could not finish within the first round and his cardio suffered there after. Struve lost the second round and won the third against a gassed Buentello.
Bottom Line:
Struve looked thicker than in previous fights and had a nice mix of striking and ground game. As he grows into his 6’11″ frame he could become a force in the heavyweight division. I don’t anticipate him challenging for a title, but he will be an interesting test for rising fighters.
