TOM College Rankings 01-04-10

Jan 4th, 2010 | By viratas | Category: College Wrestling, Rankings

openmatnew1-2Welcome to TOM’s weekly Rankings. These are different from our coaches seeding rankings. Those will be done once a month. TOM’s individual rankings will be weekly as already suggested. Comments are welcome and we hope you enjoy.

Also, we appreciate the feedback, but keep it civil. We miss things and it is not intentional. Bring it to our attention and we will take it into consideration for the next week.

Also make sure you check out all the rankings on the rankings page and visit the other websites. Intermat has been in the business for a long time and Earl’s DI College wrestling site is a great place to visit filled with information.

  1. [...] Open Mat new rankings TOM has released there new rankings. TOM College Rankings 01-04-10 | OpenMat News Some of the highlights include: Matt McDonough climbing all the way to #3! Leclere is still in the [...]

  2. this has to be a joke. Kirk Smith at #1, lets get real here. Dergo is a Midlands Champ and there were many ranked guys at that weight. Also, Colby Covington got 4th. Henderson took 5th, I know he lost in overtime to Henderson. Also, Riccio from Bucknell is ranked above Covington…….he has beaten him twice now, majored first time and overcame a 6-0 start to win at Midlands.

  3. I appreciate you comments. Smith has not lost, Dergo has.

Your otherones I will look at deeper next week thanks.

  4. Did you consider Sonny Yohn for ranking? I know he’s moved up from ‘84 to ‘97 recently, is that the reason he is not? Thanks.

  5. Correct, I want to see how he does up a weight IMO I think its a good move, but time will tell.

  6. 141lb wt. class Nick Nelson how is he rank 12th when he is Red shirting this year??? Look at D1 College wrestling ranking, where is Germane Lindsey from OHIO U 141 lb. he beat some of the guys in your ranking and finish ahead of them at Reno Tof C and the Southern Scuffle top 4 at both tournament. I could accept your top 10 after that you need to work on it. 174lb Jacob Ison, 184lb Nick Purdue and 197llb Erik Schuth same way, Finish strong and ahead of some of the guys you have rank at both tournaments. OHIO U. check it out.

  7. I know some of the are ranked. As you I love earls Rankings and for the most we appear to agree on many points. We also look at things different. Example is that he has some guys ranked that have not wrestled a match this season as part of the team. I do not rank them until they compete as a member of the team. Neither of us is correct or incorrect. Just a different way of looking at things. I do not do my rankings based on someone elses as I do not think anyone else does it based on mine.

Lindsey will most likely be in my next ranking. I appreciate that you do not agree and respect your input. Anything IMO outs side maybe the top 5-10 is somewhat of a crap shoot to be honest. Guys can make a lot of moves.

174: Ison is 16-4 also on the radar. What wins do you think put him in the top 20, who on there would you remove? Like I said I like the feed back it is informative, but give me more examples like you did with lindsey. I do not see where he beat anyone in my top 20.

184: Purdue: see above comment he is 20-7 with 3 straight losses. I ask you the same as I did on Ison.

197: Schuth: He probably should have made the top 20 just behind Drury who he has 2 of his 3 losses to.

So in a nut Shell Lindsey and Schuth are on my radar.

  8. OK I could agree On Ison he place at both the Reno and Southern 174lb is loaded, Purdue lost his lost 3 due to an injury he got in the Qt. @ the southern and still finish the tournament, Schuth Should be in your top 20 finish 3rd and 2ND is worth a top 20, Lindsey I seen on theMat you said they all have tough losses, Lindsey lose, two matches in the 1st week of the season and win 15Th matches before losing to your #3, beat your #7 and out places and beat guys that beat your# 15 @ both tournament. You have guys(#16 Juan Achuleta, #19 T.Schavier, #20 T. Melde) that have not place at any top tournament and have not beat a rank kid yet in your top 20? explain #12 Nick Nelson getting rank if he is a red shirt, are you ranking red shirt kids now? Thank you for my 2cents

  9. I will be the first to admit there are some holes which I will correct that’s why I like the feed back. (its a lot of guys to look at).

I cant change them now, but will use this info for next weeks. I admit I should have Lindsey in there and he will be next week, not sure where yet but he will be in there as well as Schuth.

I have considered only doing the top 8 guys and still am when you get below 10 or so its gets hairy IMO.

Also, I should remove Nelson I dont agree with ranking kids who have not or will not wrestle as part of the team.

  10. About Kirk Smith at #1…. .That is where he should be. He beat Dergo 6-4 OT this year at Vegas.
