In a wide open field, there are several guys who can come out on top of this heap.

When the returning National Champion Mark Ellis (18-10) is seeded #9 you know you have a weight where anything can happen.

Just to name a few guys Iowa State’s #1 David Zabriskie (21-2) looks to be the man to beat with his finals win over Oklahoma State’s #2 Jared Rosholt (30-2) at the Big 12 Championships.

But let’s also consider last years runner up and #4 seed Konrad Dudziak (14-0) of Duke. Dudziak missed some time to off the mat issues, but is back and looking to stand atop the podium. Throw Lehigh’s #3 Zachrey Rey (28-4) and we know at the very least we will have some great semifinal match ups.

Also there is that #7 Jarrod Trice (23-2), guy who captured the Midlands and was having a stellar year until his Conference Tournament. Oh and one more guy sitting undefeated in #5 seed Dan Erekson (12-0) of Iowa who captured the Big 10 title over previously undefeated and #6 seeded Nathan Everhart (35-1) of Indiana.

Round 1

Erekson gets a challenge early when he faces Clayton Jack (34-9) of Oregon State. Erekson should win this one and move on.

Rey will face a pretty tough guy in Cameron Wade (20-9) of Penn State. Wade has wrestled pretty well this year, but look for Rey to advance.

Round 2

One match that should be pretty good is when defending champ Ellis runs into #8 Ryan Tomei (32-5) of Pitt. This is a good match up and we see Tomei coming out on top.

Erekson runs into another tough match up when he faces #12 Scott Steele (14-3) of Navy. Both have missed time due to injury. In what may be a closer the expected match, we see Erekson advances to the quarters.

Round 3 (Quarterfinals)

One the top we are anticipating Zabriskie vs. Tomei. There are many that have high hopes for Tomei, but we do see Zabriskie coming out of this match with a win.

For his third straight tough match Erekson runs into last years runner up and also undefeated Dudziak. For a Heavyweight match I plan on this one having a lot of action. I also predict that Dudziak comes out on top.

On the lower half we see Rey and Everhart stepping out against one another. In another big guy match that should have some scoring look for Rey to make it out of this one.

To end this round Trice should be matched up with Rosholt. Now this match I would be willing to bet ends up with a little less scoring then the previous two matches. Our pick is Rosholt to come out on top.

Round 4 (Semifinals)

Zabriskie and Dudziak

This should be a very good match between these two guys. Dudziak is coming off a fairly lengthy lay off, while Zabriskie has been wrestling well. With that said we are going with Dudziak.

On the Bottom we have Rey and Rosholt locking horns. This is another close one in my opinion. I was leaning toward another mild upset here, but after further thought I am going with Rosholt on this one.

Finals

Dudziak vs. Rosholt

I will keep this pretty simple. I am sticking with the guy I picked at the start of the season. Dudziak is your 2010 National Champion.

Dark horses

1. Clayton Jack (Oregon State)
2. Ben Berhow (Minnesota)
3. Cameron Wade (Penn State)

TOM’s Picks

1. Dudziak
2. Rosholt
3. Zabriskie
