TOMs National Wrestling High School Team Rankings -3.08.10

Mar 8th, 2010 | By viratas | Category: HS Team Rankings, Open Mat Originals

openmatnew1-2Plenty of news as 13 of our Top 20 were in action this weekend.

Individual state tournaments were staged in Ohio, New Jersey, and California. In Minnesota, both team and individual state tourneys took place.

In Ohio, Wadsworth edged St. Edwards by 4.5pts to capture the Division I state title. #2 St. Paris Graham destroyed the field in Division II, crowning 6 individual champs.

New Jersey’s state tournament is un-scored, but #19 Long Branch had an outstanding tournament with three finalists and four total in the top 3 (remarkable numbers for NJ’s one-class tournament).

In California, three of our Top 20 were in action as the CIF Championships took place. Former #10 Clovis finished 3rd, and they drop two spots to #12. Former #19, Bakersfield won the state title with one champ and five total placers. They move up a spot to #18. Selma checks in at #20 as they finished state runners-up, with, similar to Long Branch, three total finalists, two champs, and a 5th.

The Minnesota teams dominated as they held two championships on the same weekend. #1 Apple Valley placed a whopping nine guys in the finals with seven of them winning titles. In the dual tournament, AV lost just 7 of the 42 individual bouts. They won 54-12 in the finals.

#11 Simley put seven in the finals of AA with three being crowned champions. They captured the dual title with a 34-17 win in the finals in the team tournament.

Pennsylvania staged its final leg of qualifying before the state tournament, which will start this Thursday.

Enjoy, and feel free to leave a note or discuss the rankings on our message boards.
