PORTLAND, Ore. — Coming off of two straight losses, former UFC middleweight title contender Matt “The Law†Lindland returned to his winning ways at Strikeforce Challengers 8 on Friday night, defeating newcomer Kevin “King†Casey by technical knockout in front of a raucous and partisan Rose Garden crowd.
After a brief feeling-out period, Casey decided to lock up with the Olympic silver medalist and was subsequently thrown to his back. After scrambling to his feet, however, it was Casey who initiated a takedown, securing Lindland’s back and locking up a body triangle. Lindland made the best of a bad situation and defended Casey’s choke attempts before finally turning the tables and gathering some momentum to end the round.
In the night’s co-main event, unbeaten welterweight Tyron Woodley added to his unbeaten streak, earning a controversial split decision victory over a game Nathan Coy.
