Philadelphia, PA – Tickets are selling fast for the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. A limited number of tickets remain for the event on March 17-19, 2011.
Tickets originally allocated for general public sale in the lower bowl and upper middle sections have already sold out. There are still a limited number of all-session passes available in the upper end zones at $135. Tickets can be purchased at the Wachovia Center box office, online at www.comcasttix.com, or by phone at 800/298-4200. Limited amounts of tickets may be made available in the fall of 2010. Check out www.ncaa.com/wrestling for updated ticket information.
The Wachovia Center’s capacity for wrestling is 17,366. The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships’ three-day, six-session attendance record is 97,336, set in St. Louis in 2009.
“Early sales for the 2011 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships have been very strong and it’s exciting to find that only a limited number of tickets remain from when we initially went on sale in March,” notes Richard Ensor, Commissioner of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and co-hosts of the Championships with Rider University. “Our sales goal has always been to achieve a sellout and sales to date seem to indicate that’s very achievable. I hope all local college wrestling fans will take advantage of the opportunity to buy their tickets before the sellout occurs.”
The MAAC and Rider University previously co-hosted the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, New York in 2002. The two parties have also worked together to host the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.
The Philadelphia region has a proud wrestling history, having hosted the first collegiate tournament in 1905. Since 1928, Pennsylvania and New Jersey have combined to host 13 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. This history has helped the sport grow at all age levels in the region. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are both ranked in the top-10 in the nation in total high school participation and in total number of collegiate programs.
