TOMs National Individual High School Wrestling Rankings – 6.30.10

(Updated 7-1-10) A few errors and omissions have been corrected. My Apologies.

Major events this past few weeks  included Junior and Cadet National Duals.

At this time of year, weight is intriguing as it pertains to rankings. We’ll do our best to identify what weight an individual is at, and use Fargo as our final benchmark.

Again, we know we are far from perfect, but we do our best to stay on top of things, there are a lot of wrestlers across the nation. If you feel we are overlooking someone or are unaware of them, please send us a bio and a RESPECTFUL note as to why they should be ranked. This does not mean we will rank them, but it will give us info to follow that wrestler. You can send info to rankings@theopenmat.com

    IMO, at 215 J. Taylor of FL should be top 3, as he beat Coon handily in GR at National Duals and would give Knowles or Medbury all(if not more than) they could handle.

    Pretty good rankings although, I do like the organization, I prefer when you make comments for the wrestlers that had significant wins or losses. Makes it easier to analyze. Also, you put Ballweg in at 18 at 140. He actually already graduated and is in the class of 2010. Just check Intermats rankings where he is at number 3 at 140. Other than that, you have Hathaway ranked twice and I don’t understand why Cooper dropped three spots in these rankings with only one loss at the junior duals to a very good wrestler in Ballweg. Cooper has a freestyle win over Tessari at the fila nationals so I don’t understand why he’s now below him. Lastly, regarding 140, I don’t understand how Ormsbee is also ahead of Cooper after getting pinned by Sueflohn, who later lost a couple matches in the duals. Plus, where the hell is Hunter Steiber? He had a huge win over Nick Dardanes at the duals which I expected to catapult him to number one at 135. I’m assuming you just forgot about him lol.

    I see that you are answering questions . Tanner Hall has been wrestling 215 all summer and I hear he is going to stay there . Also , why do have Berger ahead of Marsden from Illinois ? Didn’t Marsden beat him in the finals at Fargo last summer and he hasn’t wrestled at all the off season and Marsden has ? Just wondering . Keep up the good work . Thanks .

    What else do i not like?
    1: Do you really think those underclassmen (Harrah, Coon, kroels) can hang with the Gwziadowski, Honeycutt, and Taylor?
    2: I do think Taylor is a little underrated in the rankings, but not by that much.
    3: And why did Krumweide, Gwiaziadowski and Honeycutt drop so much anyway?

    As Willy said Taylor is out going No out going guys are ranked or rather should not be,

    Krumweide was pinned twice last weekend. No offense to him, but that is a tangible result. As I said Coon went 37-3 in 10 days, IMO opinion that’s impressive. Harrah pinned him. Kroells has been impressive.

    I see you have MD boy Jack Clark ranked 12th at 119, while other MD boy Kraisser is ranked 14th. JW what does Clark have over Kraisser to make him ranked higher

    Good question, I actually missed the greco one. But I also like what Peterson did in freestyle beating Moreno (who Akui lost to) and waste.

    You could easly flip them I think they are very close

    How about Vizcarrando at 215? I watched him hammer Laytos at Virginia Beach (8-5 I think, but was not really that close), lose a tough one to Giorgio (I might tak Vizcarrando in a rematch after watching that one), and I just read he beat Stolfi this past week at Disney.

    Well you could make that same argument with Peterson losing to Nick Sulzer, who Akui pinned. I kinda feel that Akui was just worn down and beat up at the end of the 4 day tourney and thought he had that match in the bag, which was an unusual mistake from a bull like him. If you look at their overall performances at one of the best weights in 171, Akui was a bit more impressive imo.

    He beat Tank Knowles at the Americas Cup
    He also beat the NHSCA Senior national champ Mcdermott at Grand River Rumble
    He also is the last wrestler I have seen in quite a while to take Morgan Mcintosh Down

    There is no question Tanner Hall from Meridian, Idaho is the best high school wrestler in the country @ 215. Fargo proved that, along with Akron earlier in the summer. Tanner is big (6-31/2) and a solid 215. He will stay there through next summer. He is a throw back to the old days in work ethic!!

    Cody Johnston of missouri deserves more recognition. He made quite a bang at Fargo and Va beach at 71 and 89. Whoever picks this kid up for college is going to have one heck of a wrestler. Not a parent just a spectator.

    Laike Gardner should be considered at either 130-135 as he pinned Arty Walsh this Spring at Blue Mountain Duals and went 10-1 at 130 in Cadet Duals losing only to Richards. Then went 135 at Fargo and placed 5th in Greco and was top 10 in FS beating Eads in the pool and then facing Sorenson and Silvestro back to back after facing Eads. Was 7th at PA States at 125, losing to State Champ Smallin OT in Sectional finals and beating D’Urso and Beitz during the season.
