Major events this past weekend included NHSCA National Duals in Virginia Beach, and USAW’s SouthEast Regional in Georgia. Iowa held their state FS/GR tournament. And a few select kids competed in the Junior World Team Trials in Colorado Springs.
The upcoming events for this weekend feature two USAW Regionals; the Southern Plains in Kansas, and an added NorthEast Regional in Pennsylvania. Georgia will be holding their state FS/GR Championships.
It should be of note that in a state like Pennsylvania or Illinois, the weight you wrestle at the state FS/GR tournament is the weight you must wrestle at Fargo. While other states allow some flexibility. In some cases, weights will still fluctuate, while in others, they will remain more static.
At this time of year, weight is intriguing as it pertains to rankings. We’ll do our best to identify what weight an individual is at, and use Fargo as our final benchmark.
Again, we know we are far from perfect, but we do our best to stay on top of things, there are a lot of wrestlers across the nation. If you feel we are overlooking someone or are unaware of them, please send us a bio and a RESPECTFUL note as to why they should be ranked. This does not mean we will rank them, but it will give us info to follow that wrestler. You can send info to rankings@theopenmat.com
Expect our Top Prospect Rankings (for Juniors) in the coming week, with an update shortly after Fargo.

Sueflohn absent from the rankings? Whats the deal here?
I have mentioned this before , but I have not seen your response . Regarding 189 . Tanner Hall is going to be wrestling 215 . Another guy you need to take a look at is Nate Shaw from Iowa . He has been wrestling very well as of late . And why is Berger from Oregon ranked higher than Marsden from Illinois ? Didn’t Marsden beat him at Fargo last year and he has not been heard from this summer ? All the other polls have him ranked way lower than third . Just asking .
Watch Lou Mascola at 135 from NJ. Went 8-2 at 135 lbs in Junior Freestyle Duals in OK City and beat #18 Tanenbaum 8-1 & 5-1. He was a cadet national freestyle AA last year. He won the NJ Junior Freestyle State Tournament this year. During the school season he was undefeated and the #1 seed in lower bracket at NJ Scholastic State Tournament after a 5th place finish his sophmore year. He contracted MRSA just 12 days prior to the state tournament in Atlantic City , but opted to compete anyway, and unfortunately went on to lose in the quarters. He has been wrestling extremely well since recovering.
Lou is on the radar
