AMES - Iowa State assistant wrestling coach Chris Bono has resigned, the school announced on Wednesday.

Bono will “pursue opportunities inside and outside the wrestling community,” according to a statement released by the ISU athletic department.

“I have been in wrestling a long time,” said Bono. “I am looking at options and considering what is best for my family. They are my first priority.”

Bono was a three-time All-American as a wrestler for ISU and served as an assistant for the Cyclones from 2002-05 before leaving for a three-year stint as an assistant at Tennessee-Chattanooga.

He returned to coach the Cyclones this past season under first-year head coach Kevin Jackson.

“Christ Bono will always be a part of the Cyclone family and has been a valuable member of my staff,” said Jackson. “He made significant contributions as a student athlete and as a coach at ISU.”
