Wisconsin rolled out the red carpet for Jesse Thielke.

The Germantown senior committed to the Badgers earlier this week, positive the program would provide him with the best chance to fulfill his goals as a wrestler and student.

Let’s call it the seven-year plan.

Though Thielke will graduate next spring, he won’t join the Badgers until the 2012-’13 school year. After high school graduation, he’ll move to Colorado Springs, Colo., and work out full time at the Olympic training center in preparation for a run at the 2012 Olympics.

After that, he’ll compete for two years at UW before taking off two years – his redshirt season and the Olympic year – to make a run at the 2016 Olympics.

After that, he’ll complete his final two years of collegiate eligibility, on track to finish in 2018.

The college heavyweights pursuing Thielke were Iowa, Cornell, Minnesota, Northwestern and Oklahoma.

“I’m not sure the other schools would have been as flexible in helping Jesse reach that Olympic goal,” said Jeff Thielke, Jesse’s father.
