Devin Peterson, Nation’s Top Ranked Wrestler, Signs With Iowa Western Iowa Western wrestling made a historic signing Thursday afternoon in the nation’s top ranked, Devin Peterson (Wisconsin Rapids, WI). Peterson signed to join the Reivers Tuesday afternoon after initially making a verbal commitment to the University of Wisconsin last summer. The FILA Junior National Greco-Roman Champion is ranked 1st in the nation at 195 pounds and the 11th overall recruit by InterMatWrestle.com. Peterson capped off a perfect senior season claiming his State Title by spending only 3 minutes and 50 seconds on the mat, securing four first period falls, putting an exclamation point on his 40-0 year and his 181-11 career record. He is also a two-time state runner-up, Cheesehead Invitational Champion, and claimed runner-up and third place finishes at FLOnationals.
Also accomplished in International styles, Peterson won double National Titles in Freestyle and Greco-Roman at the 2011 Asics-Vaughn Fargo National Tournament, in addition to his Greco-Roman Title and 5th place Freestyle finish in 2010, and double Cadet National Titles in 2009.
Peterson, who is projected to wrestle at 184 for Iowa Western, joins an already talented recruiting class including: Roland Dunlap (WI) – 78th ranked overall recruit and 9th at 182, Two-time State Champion John Jude (WI) – State Champion and 8th place finish at the NHSCA Senior Nationals Derek Geddings (NE) – Two-time State Champion, Rocky Mountain National Champion and 3rd at the Junior Folkstyle Nationals Tyler Nation (NE) – Three-time State Champion Nolan Oviatt (IA) – Two-time State Finalist Greg Jacquez (IL) – Third place finish at the Illinois State Tournament
