National Wrestling Coaches Association
There was little movement in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll after the first week and a half of the 2012-13 season.

Minnesota (1-0) remained the nation’s top-ranked team, picking up eight first-place votes. The Gophers opened the season by beating then-No. 25 Hofstra 32-6 at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis on Friday night. The Gophers then claimed five individual champions at the unscored Bison Open in Fargo, N.D. on Saturday.

Ordering in the top five remained the same, as second-ranked Penn State, third-ranked Oklahoma State, fourth-ranked Iowa and fifth-ranked Ohio State were all idle in dual competition. Illinois remained at No. 6.

All five teams had wrestlers competing in open tournaments during the weekend.

The only movement inside the top 10 came as Missouri (2-0) moved into the No. 7 spot after wins over Purdue and then-No. 23 Old Dominion on Saturday. The Tigers had opened the season in a seventh-place tie with Cornell, who was idle.

There were two duals inside the Top 25 last week. Central Michigan (1-0) pulled a slight upset beating intra-state rival Michigan (2-1) in Ann Arbor on Sunday. With the win, the Chippewas moved up to No. 14 in the Coaches Poll, while Michigan fell three spots to No. 16.

Nebraska (2-0) made a western swing and beat Northern Colorado and No. 19 Wyoming. The Huskers remained No. 9, while Wyoming also remained in the same spot.

Virginia remains ranked 17th after beating Gardner-Webb and George Mason on Saturday. The Cavaliers are off to a 5-0 start.

Purdue and Wisconsin from the Big Ten enter the rankings this week after both teams beat ranked squads to start the year. Purdue lost to No. 7 Missouri but beat Old Dominion 29-9, while Wisconsin beat Hofstra 18-13.

Other ranked teams who competed in duals since the preseason ranking release. Oklahoma who beat NAIA Oklahoma City, Northwestern beat Stanford, Maryland beat West Virginia and Division III Johns Hopkins, Lehigh beat Binghamton and Wyoming beat Boise State.

Both Old Dominion and Hofstra dropped out of this week’s poll.
