USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll – January 14, 2014


After a strong fifth-place finish at the Virginia Duals, Chattanooga moved into the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll for the first time this season. The Mocs (10-5) lone loss at the Virginia Duals was to eventual champion Virgina. The Mocs are the first Southern Conference team to be ranked this season.

Penn State, Minnesota, Iowa and Oklahoma remained steady in spots 1-4, while Cornell moved into the top five, tied with Oklahoma State in fifth with 354 points. The Big Red (4-0) recently defeated Lehigh 33-7.

Ohio University, fresh off a 33-9 victory over Northern Illinois, had been receiving votes most of the season. The Bobcats (5-1) debut this week at No. 25 and give the Mid-American Conference three ranked teams, joining seventh-ranked Missouri and ninth-ranked Northern Iowa.

Virginia moved up one spot after defeating Chattanooga, Kent State and Edinboro to win the Virginia Duals. Wisconsin moved up five spots after upsetting Ohio State. The Buckeyes dropped one spot after recovering by beating Illinois.

Oregon State moved up four spots to No. 20 after defeating Stanford over the weekend. The Cardinal dropped to No. 24.

Bloomsburg and Boise State fell out of the Top 25 after weekend losses.
