Cal Baptist, ranked No. 7 in the latest NAIA national poll, won three of the first five matches, but the Roadrunners came alive, winning the final five straight on the way to their sixth dual victory of the season.
Wrestling one weight class up, Trevor Hall got things going for CSUB at 184 pounds, earning a six-point fall victory over Michael Grijalba. Andrew Stramler followed with a big 22-5 technical fall over David Dill, pushing the Roadrunner team lead to 20-9. David Morgan earned a 3-2 decision over Alex Evers at heavyweight, Tyler Iwamura earned a 10-8 decision over Sam Fragoza at 125 pounds and Justin Durham earned a 9-5 decision over Chauncey Philipps at 133 pounds to seal the 20-point team win.
The Roadrunnersâ€™ Erik Martinez opened the night with a 5-4 decision over Johnny Rojas at 141 pounds, but Cal Baptist earned wins at 149 pounds and 157 pounds to take a 6-3 lead. CSUBâ€™s Calvin Miller won by fall at 165 pounds and the Lancersâ€™ Enock Francios won at 174 pounds before Hall broke the tie and the five consecutive ‘Runner wins put the match away.
Bakersfield (6-5) travels to face Pac-10 foe Stanford on Friday at 7 p.m. The Roadrunners return to the Icardo Center Saturday for a 7 p.m. start against Pac-10 member UC Davis. The senior trio of Daniel Montanez, Mitch Monteiro and Andrew Stramler will be honored prior to the match.
