After recently transferring across the country to Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania, Arizona native Garrett Ryan has announced his intention to stay east and wrestle in college for coach Carl Fronhofer at Columbia University.
The news was obviously good for the New York City-based institution, which is currently getting lashed by the outer bands of Hurricane Sandy.
Ryan was a state champion last season and has grown considerably since starting his high school career as a 145-pounder. He projects to be a likely heavyweight, although 197 pounds isn’t entirely out of the picture.
Ryan is rated as a four-star recruit by Amateur Wrestling News and is ranked 61st overall among the Class of 2013. He’s ranked sixth in the preseason at 220 pounds after winning double FILA Cadet titles at 220 pounds back in April. He was fifth at the FILA Cadet World Championships this past summer.
