TOM’s High School Wrestler of The Week – April 4th, 2017

Anthony Mantanona

The 2016-17 folkstyle season concluded last month for most and earlier this month for others. That means end of season tournaments are in full effect. This past weekend, University of Oklahoma recruit and California state champion Anthony Mantanona overshadowed the competition at the USA Wrestling Junior Folkstyle Nationals as he earned a title at 170. With four falls to move through the bracket and a tech-fall in the finals, Mantanona was awarded the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Junior division. A total of nine state titles were won by the five opponents Mantanona defeated. His biggest win of the tournament came in the semifinals when he pinned three-time state champion and Iowa State recruit Marcus Coleman of Team Iowa in 1:54. Congratulations to Anthony, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week!
