TOM’s High School Wrestler of The Week – April 9, 2017

Jayson Renteria - OPRF

What was supposed to be a close match between the seventh and eighth-ranked wrestlers in the nation at the 2017 Cliff Keen/Wrestling USA Dream Team Dual, turned out to be a one-sided victory for Jayson Renteria of Team Illinois. The blue chip prospect out of Oak Park River Forest put 13 points on the scoreboard to get the major decision over two-time PIAA state champion Brian Courtney of the USA Dream Team. Renteria was one of five wrestlers from Team Illinois to win their matches as the team lost 29-20 to Team USA. Renteria made history for OPRF this season as he became the first ever Huskie to advance to the finals of the IHSAA state tournament in each season of his prep career. He will head to Lincoln this fall to wrestle at the University of Nebraska. Congratulations Jayson on being TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week!
