Training Tips: Building a Plan to Achieve Your Goals

In the last edition of Training Tips, we dug into how to set goals effectively so that you can get the most out of your training. However, setting your goals is just the first step to achieving them. Once you have figured out what you want to do, you need to plan how you are going to do it. Building a plan that includes milestones, timelines, and where your focus needs to be at any given time along the way can help focus your training. Focused training, knowing what you're working towards each day and what, specifically, you're trying to improve, is the key to getting the most out of each training session.

When you set big goals, such as winning an Olympic gold medal, it may be difficult to figure out what the first step along the path to achieving them should be. Chances are you'll need to improve in every area which can be overwhelming when trying to build a plan. While constantly trying to get better is a fantastic ethos to have and is espoused by many of our best wrestlers, focusing that broad statement into a more specific plan is a must.
