Getting to Know: Archie Colgan, Wyoming

Archie Colgan, Wyoming

Throughout the off-season, we’re going to be getting to know returning NCAA Division I wrestlers from around the country.  We sent questionnaires to every program in the country and will be sharing the results throughout the long trek to next fall.  You can find them all whenever you like under the Getting to Know tag.

Name: Archie Colgan
School: University of Wyoming
Class (for 2017-18): Senior
Weight: 157

After two solid seasons in the line-up for Wyoming, Colgan broke out during his junior campaign, earning his first bid to the national tournament, running up a record of 34-10, and earning the number 15 national seed.  Though he was upended in round one in St. Louis, Colgan charged back through the consolations to reach the round of 12 where he lost a heartbreaker in the first set of tie-breakers, 5-4.  A product of the powerful Pomona High School program in Colorado, Archie has one more shot to become an All-American.  If he can continue his trajectory thus far, he has every chance to do so.

Rate your 2016-17 season on a scale of 1-10?

I would rate my season an 8 out of 10. I had my ups and downs and ended short of one of my goals.

What are you working on this off-season?

Getting stronger, trying to hit a couple of new personal records and work in a few different positions.

What was the most interesting class you took this year?

The most interesting class that I took this year was my Family Communication class.

If you weren’t a wrestler, is there another sport or competitive activity you’d have pursued?

I would have pursued football in youth and high school. I’m not sure I would have been big enough for college.

When the season ended, what is the one food you had to eat?

Considering we were in St. Louis, I had to try White Castle. As a kid, I watched Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle and wanted to try it ever since.
