Getting to Know: Emmett LiCastri, Franklin and Marshall

Emmett LiCastri, F&M

Throughout the off-season, we’re going to be getting to know returning NCAA Division I wrestlers from around the country.  We sent questionnaires to every program in the country and will be sharing the results throughout the long trek to next fall.  You can find them all whenever you like under the Getting to Know tag.

Name: Emmett LiCastri
School: Franklin & Marshall College
Class (for 207-18): Sophomore
Weight: 157

After a stellar career wrestling in Connecticut, LiCastri stepped right into the lineup for the Diplomats as a true freshman.  As the starting 157, LiCastri tied for second on the team with 10 wins against EIWA opponents.  He also had the best winning percentage against conference foes of those who wrestled at least 13 such matches.  LiCastri tied for third on the team in falls, behind Dan Martoccio and Paddy Quinlan.  Though his first college postseason did not go according to plan, Emmett laid the foundation for a successful career.  Expect to see him step forward and contend for a trip to Cleveland in 2018.

Rate your 2016-17 season on a scale of 1-10?

I would rate this past season as a 7 or 8. I gained a lot of experience and was really able to develop myself as a person and a wrestler, but I did not meet my goals at the end of the season.

Do you plan to wrestle freestyle or Greco in the off-season?

I plan on training and competing in freestyle and Greco this offseason with my team. I’m very excited for this because the freestyle and Greco season is where we are able to be loose and fine tune our wrestling – fix things that weren’t working last season.

What was your favorite match this season?

My favorite match this year was our dual meet victory over Millersville. I think we really came together as a team and put on a show. Everybody wrestled tough and we were able to really put a beating on one of our rival schools that we have such a long history with. It was awesome to be part of it.

If you weren’t a wrestler, is there another sport or competitive activity you’d have pursued?

If I was not a wrestler, I think I would be breakdancing or playing football. I did both up until high school and really enjoyed both. They’re a lot of fun and have a competitive atmosphere similar to that of wrestling.

When the season ended, what is the one food you had to eat?

After the season was over, the one food that I had to eat was ice cream. I had gone basically the entire season without having any ice cream and when we finished the season I made sure to get some. Gotta go with the straight vanilla.
