2017 Cadet World Championship Preview – Day One (GR 50, 54, 58, 63 & 100 kg)

The 2017 Cadet World Championships are set to begin in Athens, Greece, on Monday, September 4th. Greco opens the competition with matches at 50 kg, 54 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, and 100 kg getting underway at 3:30 am eastern time. This tournament will be using the new two-day format, also used at the 2017 Cadet European Championships, that all United World Wrestling events will switch to in 2018. That means those five weights will wrestle through the quarter-finals in the first session, return for the semi-finals at 11:30 am eastern, then come back on Tuesday for the repechage, beginning at 3:30 am again, with the finals at 11 am.

Last year's team race was a wild one as 2015 champions Russia scored just four fewer points but fell to fourth place. Iran (68), Azerbaijan (64), and Turkey (64) all outpointed the Russians with each team placing nine of their 10 athletes in the top 10.
