Friday night, December 8th, 2017, at the Rutgers Athletic Center (RAC) in Piscataway, New Jersey, the highly anticipated clash between 10th ranked Iowa and number nine Rutgers will take place, though the run-up to this showdown has made for an odd environment. Both teams had serious problems in their last competition with Iowa needing to be saved by a Sam Stoll (285) pin against Illinois to win, 18-17, while Rutgers fell to Lock Haven, 22-16. Instead of two teams racing toward each other at full speed, these squads are limping in a little bit, looking for a strong performance to build some momentum.
This will be the fourth meeting between Iowa and Rutgers with the last coming in December of 2015. All three prior meetings have gone the way of the Hawkeyes and the Scarlet Knights have yet to crack double digits on the scoreboard as a team. They should do so on Friday night and, at the very least, they should be able to do better than an 18 point loss in January of 2015, the closest they've come to Iowa so far.
As always with our Dual of the Week, we’ll break down each match-up, what each team needs to do to win, make our predictions, and have WrestleStat’s take on the dual as well.
