This week’s Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week, Jake Thompson of Archbishop Moeller, Ohio, earned the honor after winning his first Ohio state championship at 195 lbs. The Air Force Academy recruit had a steep climb to his title, as he needed to upset a pair of opponents ranked in the top 10 nationally. In the semifinals, Thompson used a third period counter to score the winning takedown as he knocked off fourth-ranked Jared Ball of Hilliard Darby with a 3-1 decision. That victory set the stage for a state finals bout against St. Edward’s eighth-ranked Dakota Howard. Jake was able to outlast the ordinarily high-motored Howard and take his championship by the score of 9-6. His top 10 ranked opponents were not the only difficult challenges for Thompson last weekend. He needed a takedown and near fall points in sudden victory to get through his quarterfinal match against Austintown-Fitch’s Breylon Douglas. Thompson ascended to the top of the podium after coming in second at 182 lbs as a junior. He finished his senior campaign with a 50-2 record.
Congratulations to Jake Thompson TOM’s Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week!
