NCAA DI Individual College Wrestling Rankings March 7, 2017

TheOpenMat.com has released it's March 7, 2017, NCAA Division I Individual College Wrestling Rankings. Athletes who are known to be redshirting, injured for a prolonged amount of time or are known to be coming back the second semester are not ranked. During the season, wrestlers who miss two weeks of scheduled competition (excluding opens), will be removed from the rankings (with some exceptions based on available information). They will be returned to the rankings when they compete. Ineligible student-athletes are not ranked, even if they are competing in open tournaments and plan to return to the lineup in the second semester. When they return eligible, they will be ranked. *note these are not official records and include all wins and losses except the All-Star Classic.

125 – Nick Suriano (Penn State) injury defaulted out of the Big 10 tournament after one second, just long enough to keep his eligibility for an at-large bid. His resume keeps him at number two, but there is a real question as to if he'll be that guy in two weeks. Ethan Lizak (Minnesota) was upset by Conor Youtsey (Michigan) in the Big 10 tournament. However, he came back strong to take third place including avenging his loss to Jose Rodriguez (Ohio State), 16-0. Lizak's good wins and lack of really bad losses keeps him at six because his body of work is still better than everyone behind him.

Nick Piccininni (Oklahoma State) got his best win of the season in the Big 12 finals over Josh Rodriguez (North Dakota State). That moves the Cowboy up to eight, just in front of Rodriguez. Jack Mueller (Virginia) was upset by Sean Fausz (NC State) which puts him behind both. Fausz finally has a big win at 125 this season so he jumps up to #13 with his only two losses at the lighter weight coming to Dance.
