Perhaps the most anticipated matchup of the NWCA National Duals Championship Series, after Penn State-Oklahoma State, is set to take place Sunday afternoon in Ithaca, NY. as Ohio State puts its number four ranking on the line against 10th-ranked Cornell.
This is the second year of the current dual championship format and teams from the ACC, Big 12, EIWA, EWL, and Southern Conference will all play host to Big Ten Conference opponents. Cornell comes into the contest 12-2 on the year and are EIWA as well as Ivy League champions, while the Buckeyes are 11-2 and finished third in the Big 10.
The two have met five times previously in duals, with Cornell holding a slight 3-2 advantage. The Big Red pulled out a 27-6 victory over the Buckeyes in the 2011 National Dual tournament.
This year’s contest will be highlighted by a pair of showdowns at 174 and 184. At 174 we’ll likely see second-ranked Bo Jordan square off with number three Brian Realbuto. Up at 184, we’ll have a rematch of the All-Star Classic where top-ranked Gabe Dean dispatched fellow NCAA champion Myles Martin, 13-4.
