The 2017 UWW Under 23 World Championships from Bydogszcz, Poland roll on with women’s freestyle continuing on day four, Friday, November 24th, 2017. 48 kg, 53 kg, 60 kg, and 69 kg will be on offer during the final World Championships using the old one day format. That means each of those weight classes gets underway at 10:00 am local time, 4:00 am eastern with the finals scheduled for 6:00 pm local/noon eastern. TrackWrestling will stream every match live and you can follow the tournament there as well. The US women finished in the top five as a team at the Cadet, Junior, and Senior World Championships this year so expect a strong performance. Japan is the unquestioned international power in women’s freestyle, winning a remarkable number of team titles in recent years, often by laughable margins. Expect them to be the team to beat in Poland once again. The under 23 classification provides an eclectic mix of proven Senior level grapplers, age group stars, and wrestlers who might be stuck behind someone outstanding, keeping them from competing at world-level championships. We should find out a lot about many of these athletes this week and it is a safe bet we’ll see more than a few of them at the Senior level World Championships down the line if we haven’t already.
Join us now as we go weight-by-weight through the day one field identifying title contenders, medal threats, dark horses, and wrestlers to keep an eye on, then make our medal predictions!
