The 2017 Women's Freestyle Nationals, the tournament many will always call Body Bar, gets underway Saturday, May 20th, with competition from Division I all the way up through UWW Cadets. On the line for the Cadets at the weight classes from 70 kg on down are spots on the world team which will travel to Athens, Greece in September. UWW does not contest weight classes above 70 kg at the Cadet World Championships, but there will still be national championships to be won. Wrestling begins in Dallas at 9:30 am central time with the Cadets starting at 10:30 and the best two of three finals set for 6:00 pm.
Emily Shilson (Minnesota) is the heavy favorite here after finishing second to Alleida Martinez (California) at last year's Body Bar and then proceeding to win double Fargo titles (Cadet and Junior) last summer. Brooklyn Courtney (Arizona) will be looking to improve upon her eighth-place finish a year ago, while Montana DeLawder (Pennsylvania) moves up from the Schoolgirl division after finishing third there in 2016. Alice Todryk (Oregon) is another grappler to keep an eye on. She was third at 97 pounds in the Schoolgirl division back in 2014. She could be a contender for a podium finish. Samara Chavez (Texas) is moving up from the Schoolgirl division after finishing second and third the past two years. Chavez could be a darkhorse to reach the finals.
1st – Emily Shilson (Minnesota)
2nd – Montana DeLawder (Pennsylvania)
3rd – Brooklyn Courtney (Arizona)
4th – Samara Chavez (Texas)
