The Open Mat launched the 7 Minutes feature in 2009 and profiled wrestlers with a series of short questions, some of them were relevant to wrestling, while others were looks inside to the wrestler’s personality and likes. AWN has relaunched the 7 Minutes feature, profiling athletes and coaches from all levels of wrestling. Some will be featured in the print version of Amateur Wrestling News, while others will be featured here on the website.

1. Why did you choose to wrestle at your current college?
The coaches were a big reason for me. I really liked Coach Tom Borrelli and I had heard many great things about him. I felt confident with him being my coach for the next five years and felt like we were on the same page with what I wanted to accomplish on the mat. At the time Casey Cunningham was still there and I was looking forward to working with him but unfortunately he left the program at the end of the season, prior to my freshman year.
2. What advice would you give to young wrestlers looking to continue their wrestling careers in college?
Take advantage of each day and look to improve every workout. Expect a lot from yourself and hold yourself to a high standard. Believe and buy into what your coaches’ stress, they are here to help you accomplish your goals. Also have fun along the way and enjoy the process that leads you to accomplishing your goals.
3. What would your last meal, ever, be? And Why?
I would have venison tenderloin, cheesy potatoes, some spinach, lots of fruit, and for dessert I would have ice cream. Those are most of my favorite foods. I absolutely love venison, fruit, and ice cream.
4. Favorite flavor of Gatorade (or Powerade)?
Mountain Berry Blast Powerade
5. Favorite movie of all time? Why?
It is tough but I am going to go with Revolver, starring Jason Statham, Ray Liotta and André 3000. I think it has a great story line and it keeps you thinking from start to finish. You may have to watch it two or three times, it can be a little confusing.
6. What’s your favorite professional sports team and Why?
The Patriots, mainly because I am a Tom Brady fan though.
7. It’s summertime and you don’t have anything wrestling related to do … what do you prefer to spend your time doing?
I like to be outside, maybe at a pool or lake, and playing some beach volleyball.
