Missouri Open Mats Held Saturday at 9 a.m

missouri-logoColumbia, Mo. – Tiger wrestling fans can catch their first glimpse of the team in action as the squad hosts open mats, Saturday, Sept. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. in the practice room located on the fourth floor of the Hearnes Center. Saturday’s open mats are free and open to viewing by the public.

Parking lots located around the Hearnes Center are for football passholders only. To reach the wrestling room, please enter the Hearnes Center and take the elevator to the fourth floor. The practice room is located through the large black doors seen after exiting the elevators and turning left.

“Having open mats on a football game day provides fans with a great opportunity to come check up on the Tiger wrestling squad before going to the game,” Missouri Head Coach Brian Smith said. “Fans have a chance to get together and socialize before the game while watching some of the best wrestlers in the nation prepare for the upcoming campaign.”

Missouri returns six members of its 10 man squad from the 2008-09 campaign. Among the six returners are five NCAA qualifiers, three All-Americans and the 2009 heavyweight National Champion. Saturday’s open mats give fans the opportunity to watch not only Tiger returners, but the newest members of the 2009-10 Missouri squad.
