Rutgers Wrestling Announces 2010-11 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 12, 2010) – Rutgers wrestling has released its 2010-11 schedule head coach Scott Goodale announced today. The Scarlet Knights will look to build upon a successful 2009-10 campaign which saw seven wrestlers earn NCAA bids, the most since 1960. Highlights of the schedule include dual meets with six teams that finished last season ranked in the top-25 and three matchups that take place at the Louis Brown Athletic Center (The RAC).

“We have always put a lot of emphasis on our dual meet schedule and this year will be no different,” Goodale said. “We feel like we have added some interesting teams to the schedule and we are excited to be competing at the RAC three more times this year.”

Rutgers will kick off its 2010-11 campaign with a tri-meet against Sacred Heart and East Stroudsburg (Nov. 7).

Following the tri-meet, the Scarlet Knights will head to New York for three consecutive weekends. The Empire State trip begins with the Oklahoma Gold Tournament (Nov. 13) in Brockport. The following weekend the Scarlet Knights will take on Penn State and West Virginia at the Sprawl & Brawl (Nov. 21) in Binghamton. Rutgers closes its New York swing with the Northeast Duals (Nov. 27) in Albany where the squad will meet up with Stanford, Columbia and Big 12 power Missouri.

The Scarlet Knights compete in the Nittany Lion Open (Dec. 5) before returning to the College Ave Gym to host their first home match of the season against Princeton and George Mason (Dec. 11).

Rutgers closes out 2010 with the Midlands Championships (Dec. 29-30) at Northwestern University.

The Scarlet Knights open 2011 with a pair of road matchups with EIWA rivals Harvard and Brown on January 7.

RU will face North Carolina (Jan. 9) at College Ave Gym before hosting its first of three duals at the RAC against EIWA foe Bucknell (Jan. 14).

The Scarlet Knights head back to College Ave for a matchup with long-time rival Army (Jan. 15) before the second dual at the RAC against ACC power Virginia Tech (Jan. 21). Rutgers makes a quick turnaround following its dual with the Hokies as it faces Rider on January 22 at College Ave Gym.

Rutgers ends January on the road with duals against Virginia (Jan. 28) and Navy (Jan. 29).

The Scarlet Knights kick off their February schedule with a pair of home duals with EIWA rivals. RU hosts American (Feb. 9) at College Ave. Gym before closing its home season with senior day against Lehigh (Feb. 17), the last of the three duals being held at the RAC.

Rutgers concludes its dual season with a trip to Drexel (Feb. 20).

The Scarlet Knights will begin their postseason with the 108thEIWA Championships (March 5-6) on the campus of Bucknell University.

Following EIWA’s Rutgers will look to compete in the NCAA Championships (March 17-19) held in Philadelphia, Pa.

Rutgers returns nine of 10 starters from a 2009-10 squad that finished at No. 22 in the final 2009-10 NWCA/USA Today Division I Team Coaches Poll after posting a 19-5-1 record. Additionally, the Scarlet Knights 2010-11 roster will feature eight wrestlers with prior NCAA Championship experience.
