Travis Wiuff spars with his trainer, moves to the heavy bag, unloads jabs, spars some more, hops on an exercise bike.
His feet never stop moving. His sweat never stops dripping.
The Owatonna native, a seasoned and decorated mixed martial artist, is preparing for a fight — but not just any. Wiuff, a 13-year MMA veteran who holds a 69-18 record, is on the cusp of fighting in his hometown for the first time in 12 years.
On Saturday, he will face Bellator veteran Terry Davinney (10-5) as the main event of O-Town Throwdown I at the Four Seasons Centre.
And Wiuff has never felt more ready.
“I’ve never been in this good of shape,” Wiuff, 36, said last week in the Kasson-Mantorville High School wrestling room. Wiuff, who was a first-year assistant coach for the KoMets this past season, has been training with K-M wrestling coach Jamie Heidt and Hiedt’s Iowa-bound heavyweight Sam Stoll.
