Nelson and Mensah-Stock Learn Their Bronze-Medal Matchups

OSLO, Norway – Thursday morning’s women’s freestyle repechage bouts at the Senior World Championships set the bronze-medal opponents for two U.S. wrestlers: 2020 Olympic champion and 2019 World champion Tamyra Mensah Stock at 68 kg and 2017 Junior World champion Maya Nelson at 59 kg.

Nelson, the No. 4 seed, will face Shoovdor Baatarjav of Mongolia, a 2018 and 2019 World bronze medalist. Baatarjav won her repechage match over Diana Kayumova of Kazakhstan.

Mensah Stock, the No. 1 seed, will wrestle 2017 U23 World bronze medalist Adele Hanzlickova of the Czech Republic in her bronze-medal bout. Hanzlickova beat Danute Domikaiyte of Lithuania in their repechage match.

In addition to her Olympic gold medal, Mensah Stock won a 2019 World title and 2018 World bronze medal.

The U.S. will have three athletes in the medal round. 2016 Olympic champion, 2020 Olympic bronze medalist and two-time World champion Helen Maroulis goes for the gold medal at 57 kg against Anshu of India.

So far, the U.S. team has won five medals, and with Maroulis in the finals, has clinched at least six medals. Adeline Gray won the gold medal at 76 kg, with silver medals to Sarah Hildebrandt at 50 kg and Kayla Miracle at 62 kg, plus bronze medals from Jenna Burkert at 55 kg and Forrest Molinari at 65 kg.

The final medal round in women’s freestyle will start at 6:00 p.m. local time, which is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. All the action is live on FloWrestling
