Valenti Wins Bronze at Pan American Championships

MARACAIBO, Venezuela – Assistant wrestling coach, Matt Valenti, took third at the Pan American Championships this past weekend, April 25. He was one of seven U.S. wrestlers to win a medal at the tournament.

Wrestling at 60 kg/132 pounds, he finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. In the first round he defeated Luis Portillo of El Salvador, 3-0, 7-0 before defeating Fernando Iglesias from Argentina 3-1, 2-3, 5-1. His only loss of the tournament came in a tight match with James Mancini from Canada. The two battled hard, but Mancini came out on top 1-0, 1-1, 0-1. Valenti went on to win his final match 2-0, 0-2, 1-0 against Nelson Garcia of Colombia.

On May 30-31, Valenti will compete at the World Team Trials in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
