Team USA dominates UWW Schoolboy Pan-American Championships freestyle competitions

Six young men took home gold medals, nine of ten finished on the podium and Team USA finished on top of the team standings in freestyle at the Schoolboy Pan-Am Championships. Brandon O’Brien, 32 kg, Carter Young, 38 kg, Keegan Slyter, 47 kg, Dominick Serrano, 59 kg, Cougar Andersen, 66 kg, and Tyler Hannah, 85 kg, all took home titles with Young being named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler. Christian Forbes, 35 kg, also reached the final but had to settle for silver. Jesse Mendez, 42 kg, and Brooks Empey, 73 kg, are coming home with bronze.

Dias, Mortimer lead strong performance in Schoolgirl Freestyle at Pan-Ams

Sterling Dias won the 37 kg weight class while Sage Mortimer won 40 kg as Team USA won a total of five medals and finished third in the team race at the Schoolgirl Pan-Am Championships. Kylie Welker, 44 kg, Camille Fournier, 48 kg, and Tristan Kelly, 62 kg, each won a bronze medal. Host country Columbia won the team race while Venezuela was second.

O’Brien, Slyter, and Hannah claim double gold at Schoolboy Pan-Ams

Team USA sent the same 10 wrestlers to compete in Greco at the Schoolboy Pan-American Championships as they did in freestyle. The result was the same as the Americans won another team title. Brandon O’Brien, 32 kg, Keegan Slyter, 47 kg, and Tyler Hannah, 85 kg, all backed up their freestyle gold medals with Greco titles. Jesse Mendez, 42 kg, who was a freestyle bronze medalist also won a Greco crown. Christian Forbes, 35 kg, Carter Young, 38 kg, and Aaden Valdez, 53 kg, were silver medalists. Dominick Serrano, 59 kg, took a bronze medal.

Nine gold medals for Team USA at freestyle Veterans World Championships

The 2016 World Championships for Veteran freestyle wrestlers took place in Walbrzych, Poland over the weekend. Overall Team USA won 20 medals across the seven age groups with nine of them being gold. Shirzad Ahmadi won for the fourth consecutive year, this time at 63 kg in Cat G. Ahmadi now has 13 Veterans World Championship titles. Antonio Peraza won this tournament for the third time, taking the top spot at 85 kg in Cat F. Bruce Moe was a silver medalist at the Greco Veterans World Championships and doubled back, this time winning a title in freestyle at 76 kg in Cat E. Full results can be found at the link above.

Big Ten Network announces wrestling schedule

@B1GWrestling tweeted the schedule which includes Penn State hosting Lehigh on December 4th and Missouri traveling to Columbus to take on Ohio State on December 8th. The conference slate gets going after the Midlands. It features Penn State/Iowa on January 20th, Ohio State/Iowa on January 27th, and Penn State/Ohio State on February 3rd. Rutgers makes four appearances this year, though they are all on the road.
