The first gold medals at the inaugural United World Wrestling Under 23 World Championships will be awarded to Greco-Roman competitors as they take to the mat starting on Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 in Bydgoszcz, Poland. 59 kg, 66 kg, 80 kg, and 130 kg will be the contested weights on day two, Wednesday, November 22nd, 2017 during the last World Championships using the one day format. That means we’ll see four weight classes wrestled from start to finish each day. The second half of Greco gets underway at 10:00 am local time in Poland which is 4:00 am on the east coast with the finals set for 6:00 pm local/noon eastern. TrackWrestling will stream every match live and you can follow the tournament there as well. After a year in which Team USA saw some historic firsts in Greco at the age group level, it will be interesting to see how they do here. The under 23 classification provides an eclectic mix of proven Senior level grapplers, age group stars, and wrestlers who might be stuck behind someone outstanding, keeping them from competing at world-level championships. We should find out a lot about many of these athletes this week and it is a safe bet we’ll see more than a few of them at the Senior level World Championships down the line if we haven’t already.
Join us now as we go weight-by-weight through the day one field identifying title contenders, medal threats, dark horses, and wrestlers to keep an eye on, then make our medal predictions!
