TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week David Carr (Massillon Perry, OH) was plenty deserving of this award last week when he won the Walsh Jesuit Ironman defeating two-time Junior Nationals champion Anthony Artalona. Carr carried that momentum into this weekend’s Beast of the East where he defeated Sammy Sasso, the top-ranked 145 lber in the nation. Sasso is a Pennsylvania state champion and won a 2016 Beast of the East title. In the highly anticipated super-match, Carr controlled the action, thwarted the scoring opportunities of the dangerous Sasso, and capitalized when the situation presented itself. In his five matches at the Beast, Carr pinned two opponents, majored another, and won a pair of decisions that were more lopsided than the score may indicate. The win gave Carr his second career title at the Beast of the East, as he also won a title in 2015 as a sophomore. David, an Iowa State commit, will be looking to capture his fourth Ohio state championship this season. Congratulations to David Carr, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week!
