High School Wrestler of the Week

Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week – Jan. 29th, 2018

Phillip Moomey, Kearney, NE

This week’s Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week, Phillip Moomey of Kearney, Nebraska, earned the honor after his championship at the Rocky Welton Invitational. Moomey captured his title in the 126 lbs weight class in dramatic fashion. Down by a point with 10 seconds left in the match, Moomey hit a spectacular lateral drop and put his opponent Jace Koelzer, a 2016 Kansas state champion, on his back for five decisive points in an 8-4 victory. In order to reach the finals, Moomey recorded a pair of technical falls to go along with two pins. His five wins at the Rocky Welton Invitational now bring Phillip’s season record up to 33-1. After winning a Nebraska state title as a sophomore, Moomey took home a Cadet Greco-Roman national championship last summer in Fargo. He also earned third place the hard way in Cadet freestyle, winning 10 matches in a row after dropping a second-round bout.

Congratulations to Phillip Moomey, TOM’s Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week!
