Last weekend five states held their individual state tournaments to kick off the official start of the high school postseason. This week the action gets turned up a notch with 16 states holding their championships, including powers such as Iowa and Illinois. To preview some of the competition that will be taking place, we will look at 18 of the deepest brackets and potential matchups that feature national implications.

Iowa 3A 106 lbs

Mason City’s fourth-ranked Cullan Schriever sits atop the bracket with a 36-1 overall record. The sophomore was the state champion at this weight class one season ago. His likely finals opponent is a freshman, Fort Dodge’s 18th ranked Drake Ayala. The pair has met already once this season with Schriever taking an 8-5 decision at the CIML Invitational. That is currently the only loss in Ayala’s young career.

TOM’s Championship Prediction: Cullan Schriever (Mason City)
