With the small conferences out of the way for our previews, we’ve moved on to cover the monster-sized qualifiers. That leads us to the Big 12. For years (seven to be exact), Oklahoma State has dominated the conference. As recently as 2017, the Cowboys accounted for eight of the Big 12’s 11 All-Americans and only two other schools placed wrestlers on the podium. 2019 marked a step in the opposite direction. Make no mistake, there’s no sign of Oklahoma State slowing down, but others are having success, too. Five different Big 12 school placed wrestlers on the podium in 2019 and OSU only accounted for half of the conference’s AA’s. What has happened is that all three other traditional Big 12 schools have changed coaching staff’s and have new energy into their respective programs. The affiliate members have seemed to take advantage of their status in one of the nation’s most storied conferences and improved upon their recruiting. Add all of that together and you have a Big 12 Conference that will be a lot of fun in 2019-20.
Here’s what to expect from the Big 12 in 2019-20. We have a look at all 12 teams, returning All-Americans, impact freshmen, a master conference dual schedule, notable non-conference duals, and, of course, rankings.
