It is time to start rolling out the Top 10 Previews for this upcoming Division II wrestling season. I cannot wait for the season to start and there is no better way to make sure you know what to expect from the contenders than a way too early look at what their lineup might be. Big thank you to the coaches who were so great with information.
“I tell you, I get no respect!” There have to be times that St. Cloud State University head coach Steve Costanzo feels like he is Rodney Dangerfield. His Huskies are coming off back-to-back NCAA Division II men’s wrestling titles and have won four titles since the 2015 season. The team from Minnesota has flourished under Costanzo, consistently showing that he does not need to rebuild, just reload. And then he wakes up one morning and sees that his program is entering the season ranked only fourth in the nation. Fourth? It might make a lesser man cross his arms and say, “I am not going to work with this guy.” Steve Costanzo is not a lesser man though, he has always been a pleasure to interact with and it may be because he knows something I do not. St. Cloud State knows precisely what they are about, championships. I can look at this lineup and see three different wrestlers who should find their way into the rankings including 2018 national qualifier Tyree Overton at 184. Even with as many as four new starters, this is still a reload instead of a rebuild for St. Cloud State.
