It is time to start rolling out the Top 10 Previews for this upcoming Division II wrestling season. I cannot wait for the season to start and there is no better way to make sure you know what to expect from the contenders than a way too early look at what their lineup might be. Big thank you to the coaches who were so great with information.
A year ago Tiffin University sent two wrestlers to the national finals in Cleveland and came away with a national title at 197 from Nicholas “Curly” Mason. He capped his dominating postseason run with an upset victory over Vince Dietz (St. Cloud State) in what was a surprise to most. The junior returns as the wrestler to beat at the weight and will anchor a lineup that should be improved from top to bottom. Trey Grine was also a finalist but fell short of his first title. He returns as the senior leader of this lineup and it will be up to him if he returns to 149 or moves up to 157. This is a team that finished eighth a year ago with just two qualifiers. It stands to reason that if they could send four to Sioux Falls that they would finish top four. I mean it’s just math. Joking aside, Joe Simcoe enters his ninth season as the head coach of the Dragons in a great position to better last seasons program-best finish.
