Today’s Early Lineup Look travels down south to a region that has only been featured once thus far. We’ll discuss one of the traditional powers of the SoCon, Chattanooga. The Mocs are led by a young, second-year head coach in Kyle Ruschell. The Mocs have experienced some turnover in their coaching staff this offseason as Kyle has brought in his younger brother, TJ, who assisted at Clarion in 2018-19, as well as Michael Hatcher. Hatcher, a member of the Chattanooga braintrust from 2009-13, will assume the title of assistant head coach. The Mocs have a solid nucleus returning which features three returning national qualifiers from 2019. In Ruschell’s first season he sent four wrestlers to nationals. A couple of notable transfers could also provide the Mocs with a boost in 19-20. They will need help as the rest of the conference continues to improve, as well. Campbell, the conference and dual meet champion a year ago, could feature eight returning qualifiers and Appalachian State is incredibly consistent. As has been the case for the past few years, expect a three-way dogfight for dual meet supremacy and the conference crown. In Ruschell’s second season will Chattanooga take steps towards becoming the program that had won 11 of 12 SoCon titles between 2005 and 2016? We’ll see, but for now, here’s the group that he could send out in 2019-20.
