Today’s we’re going back east for the “Early Lineup Look” feature to examine the 2019-20 possibilities for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks lineup. This is a team that is fresh off their second consecutive EIWA Championship and tied for a 13th place finish at the 2019 NCAA Championships. Their performance in March was a 180-degree turn from November for 12th-year head coach Pat Santoro. Ravaged by injuries early in the season and a daunting schedule, Lehigh lost their first seven dual meets, a streak that was stopped in late December at the South Beach Duals. As the team started to get healthier and gel, they went on to defeat bitter-rival Cornell, along with Arizona State and finished the dual season with a 9-9 mark. In the postseason, they went on to rack up 153 points at the EIWA meet and sent eight of their ten starters to Pittsburgh. Three Mountain Hawks earned All-American honors at the NCAA Championships and two of them will return for the 19-20 season. Six others that have qualified for nationals at one point or another in their collegiate careers are back and will combine forces to become one of the toughest teams in the east. This strong core of returnees will be helped by a 2019 recruiting class that was ranked 18th in the nation. While Cornell is always a favorite and Princeton is improving by leaps and bounds, Lehigh has remained consistent and should take a backseat to no one in the EIWA.
Here is an early weight-by-weight look at the Lehigh lineup and I stress the word EARLY! As we get closer to the preseason, we’ll have a better idea of which student-athletes will be changing weights or redshirting.
125: Brandon Paetzell (Redshirt Junior; Phillipsburg, New Jersey)
Mitchell Polito (Redshirt Freshman; East Brunswick, New Jersey)
