There’s plenty of excitement in the Greeley, Colorado area surrounding the 2019-20 Northern Colorado wrestling team. Don’t look now but Troy Nickerson is starting his sixth season at the helm of the UNC program that is ready to breakout. The Bears will return two wrestlers that have NCAA tournament experience, along with two more national qualifiers that have transferred in during the offseason. If that isn’t enough, the program will get bolstered by the sixth-ranked recruiting class in the country. That’s right, Northern Colorado hauled in a top-ten class! Nickerson has talked about how he targeted this group of freshmen as crucial cornerstones to his program, shortly after taking over in 2014. Not only does this class feature three top-100 recruits, but they are also all homegrown Colorado natives, as is most of their crop of incoming freshmen. In the upcoming season, Northern Colorado will be looking to crown their first All-American of the Nickerson-era and the first in almost a decade. Here’s what to look for from Northern Colorado in the 2019-20 season.
