We’re headed into year three of the Keith Gavin era at Pittsburgh with plenty of reason to be optimistic. After the first season under Gavin, Pitt appeared to be in a rebuilding mode, so a 13-3 dual record in 2018-19 with wins over NC State, Northern Iowa, and Virginia may have been unexpected and celebrated. The emergence of a previously unheralded transfer and a freshman that flew up the ranks into the top five nationally, probably nudged the Panthers a year ahead of schedule. All five of the Panthers 2018-19 NCAA qualifiers are back and ready to make another run. Of course, three qualifiers were left with a bad taste in their mouths, as they lost in the NCAA Round of 12 in their own backyard. Along with the five qualifiers, three other starters from a year ago are back and coupled with a pair of highly touted freshman, make for an imposing lineup. Gavin, the most recent national champion for the Panthers in 2008, is looking to reestablish the Panthers as a national player and an ACC power. That is no easy task as the conference boasts two teams that have won NCAA team trophies in the last four seasons and is always improving. This is what we can expect from the Pitt Panthers during the 2019-20 campaign.
