The 2019-20 season marked the third year at the helm of the Rider wrestling program for its head coach and alum John Hangey. This season’s edition of the Broncs team is an experienced bunch. As many as five seniors should lead the way, while the squad boasts four past national qualifiers. Two of those national qualifiers happen to be at a weight class lower than in 2018-19, which certainly could bring a positive impact to the team. Rider, along with the rest of the teams from the EWL, will be a part of a new MAC Conference in the upcoming season. That change could bring a mixed bag of results for Rider and their old conference-mates from the EWL. While the level of competition has been raised and there are more quality opponents to worry about, there will also be more NCAA qualifiers allocated to the conference. That should help a team like Rider that finished the year with a few team members on the cusp of qualification. In 2018-19, the Broncs finished second at the EWL Championships for a second consecutive year and had an 8-5 overall dual record. We’ve heard a lot from the other two DI schools in New Jersey, will Rider be able to keep up with them in 2019-20? Here’s the group that will be attempting to do so.
